Trama: Two years ago Toh Hai Leong, film critic and secretary for the Singapore Film Society, was diagnosed with diabetes. His friends in the local arts community came together to make a film celebrating his life, seeking to help him cope with his illness. Over the course of this journey at Toh’s side, and his battle with the disease, strong and touching bonds develop between him and the filmmakers. Together they go back over his life, exploring his memories, moments of happiness, success, problems and sometimes grief. An intimate portrait of a man facing his illness, A Friend Like None asks the question of whether life is made of a series of decisive events whose memory gradually fades with time or whether, on the contrary, it is those everyday moments that teach us just as much. |
